Sex offender torments, harasses 15-year-old girl at RTA rapid station in Cleveland

CLEVELAND, Ohio — A registered sex offender is accused of tormenting a 15-year-old girl trying to leave the Cedar-University RTA rapid station.

Ryan White, 32, is charged with abduction. He was arrested Saturday and is in the Cuyahoga County Jail awaiting his first court appearance.

The incident happened about 6:40 a.m. Wednesday. The girl got off the rapid and was walking out of the station when White jumped in front of her, according to court records.

He took several photos of the girl while refusing to allow her to walk away, court records say.

She tried to walk away, but White grabbed her in a “bear hug,” court records say. He let her go and she tried to walk away, but White again grabbed her in bear hug. She was able to get away from him after he let her go the second time, court records say.

RTA police officers who reviewed surveillance footage noted in court records the girl had a “look of fear on her face” as she shuffled away from the station. White walked next to her for a short time and then walked off.

After he left, the girl broke down in tears and ran from the area out of the view of the surveillance cameras, according to court records.

White is a sex offender stemming from a conviction in 2005 in Tennessee, according to the Ohio Sex Offender Registry. White’s victim in that case was and 11-year-old boy.

He pleaded guilty in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court to public indecency in August 2017.
