Oberlin College president to discuss the evolution of liberal arts colleges: Watch live at the City Club of Cleveland

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Oberlin’s newest president Carmen Twillie Ambar will speak at the City Club of Cleveland about what liberal arts colleges can do to attract students and remain relevant.

When Ambar began as president of the college in September 2017, she faced a number of challenges: sliding enrollment at the college and trying to balance the college’s budget as a result.

Ambar was inaugurated Oct. 5, 2018, and is Oberlin’s first black president.

It’s not just a problem at Oberlin. Hiram College near Mantua is reorganizing to try and make its programs more appealing. Nationwide, liberal arts colleges -- and universities in general -- are facing issues as student debt reaches new heights and students question that a degree will land them a job that can pay it off.
