Iraqi Minister Dies at 46
BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) _ Tareq Hamad al-Abdallah, minister of light industry, has died after a long illness, the official Iraqi News Agency reported Thursday. He was 46.
The agency did not specify Abdallah’s illness. The report said he died Tuesday.
It said members of the Iraqi Revolutionary Command Council and the ruling Baath party command attended his funeral in Baghdad.
Abdallah, a former army officer, was a confidant of President Saddam Hussein. He served as chief of the president’s office before being appointed a cabinet minister in 1982.
