STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) _ Liz Brown hit an 18-foot jumper shot with three seconds left in triple overtime Saturday to lift Oklahoma State to a 96-94 victory over Michigan State in the second round of the NCAA Midwest Regional.
The Cowgirls advance to Thursday’s round at Austin, Texas against the winner of Sunday’s Stephen F. Austin-Virginia game.
Oklahoma State scored the first four points of the third overtime, but Michigan State battled back, tying the game at 94-94 on a pair of free throws by Cherie Swarthout with 33 seconds left.
The Cowgirls then ran the clock down before Brown, who finished with 12 points, hit the game-winner.
There were 15 ties and 14 lead changes in the game, and neither team led by more than six points.
Michigan State scored the first three points in the second overtime before Oklahoma State came back and tied the game 78-78. The Spartans then scored the next five points to take a 83-78 lead with 47 seconds remaining.
Oklahoma State tied the game on a 20-footer by Paula Breeden.
Lisa McGill led Oklahoma State (27-5) with 32 points and 10 rebounds. Shea Jackson and Shelly Blessing each added 12 points.
Michigan State’s Eileen Shea had 35 points.
The Spartans (21-8), seeded fourth in the regional, drew a bye in the first round of the tournament and should have played the game in Lansing, Mich., but the team’s arena was hosting an ice show.
