Kindred at Home and Kindred Hospice Annual Food Drive Donates More Than 300,000 Meals to Benefit Communities Across the Country

October 8, 2018

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct 8, 2018--Kindred at Home and Kindred Hospice today announced that their branches across the country collected food and monetary donations equivalent to more than 300,000 meals during their 14 th annual food drive held throughout the month of August.

“We are incredibly thankful for the generosity and compassion of the communities we serve as well as our partnering organizations for supporting our annual food drive to help those in need,” said David Causby, Chief Executive Officer of Kindred at Home. “We are honored to serve such giving people and equally proud of our Kindred at Home and Kindred Hospice staff for their efforts to donate and collect food in addition to their everyday work delivering quality care to our patients.”

In August, employees of Kindred at Home and Kindred Hospice at many of the organization’s 550-plus locations nationwide placed food collection bags at their offices as well as healthcare facilities and business locations in their communities. Throughout the month, they went to these locations and “harvested” staff and area residents’ non-perishable food and monetary donations. Once the local drives concluded, Kindred employees distributed the food and funds collected to designated local food banks and other charitable organizations.

Kindred Hospice in Booneville, MS, for instance, collected more than 7,000 pounds of food, which it donated to four different food pantries across its service area. Kindred at Home in Raleigh, NC set a goal of collecting at least 400 pounds of food and ultimately collected more than 3,200 pounds, which it donated to five area agencies. Kindred at Home in Liberty Lake, WA delivered nearly 2,000 pounds of food to the Second Harvest Food Bank that serves the Spokane area.

“Each year, our food drive gives an incredible boost to the organizations dedicated to serving those in need,” said Mr. Causby. “We are grateful to be able to help them put food on the table for thousands of people across the country. Our food drive brings out the best in people, and it shows how a healthcare provider can take the lead in helping to make a difference in the broader health of the communities it serves.”

Since the food drives began in 2005, more than 3.31 million pounds (1,655 tons) of food have been collected for local food banks and other charitable organizations in communities across the country by Kindred at Home and Kindred Hospice.

Healthcare providers and businesses interested in participating in next year’s food drive should contact their local Kindred at Home or Kindred Hospice office. Contact information can be found using the office locator tool on the Kindred at Home and Kindred Hospice websites.
