ABC Wins the Ratings Week With AM-Nielsens-List

NEW YORK (AP) _ ABC landed five of its shows in the Top 10 and 10 in the Top 20 to win last week’s prime-time ratings, according to Nielsen Media Research data released Wednesday.

ABC won the week of March 14-20 with an average rating of 12.9 and a 21 audience share. ABC’s nightly victories were Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

CBS claimed second with an 11.4 rating, 19 share.

Third was NBC. Despite landing ″Seinfeld″ at No. 2 and ″Frasier″ in fourth place, NBC averaged a 10.7 rating, 18 share.

The Fox Broadcasting Co., which programs only 15 of the 22 prime-time hours, averaged a 7.3 rating, 12 share for the week.

One ratings point equals 942,000 homes among the nation’s 94.2 million TV households. Share is the percentage of sets tuned in during a specified time period.

ABC won the evening news ratings, averaging a 10.9 rating, 21 share; ″CBS Evening News″ and ″NBC Nightly News″ tied for second place with a 9.2 rating, 18 share, though CBS did not count its Thursday and Friday ratings due to low coverage from NCAA basketball games.
