LOWELL -- A body was recovered from the Pawtucket Canal in Lowell near Kearney Square on Saturday afternoon, according to the Middlesex District Attorney’s office.
State Police assigned to the DA’s office responded to the scene about 12:30 p.m.
“This has been referred to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner who will determine the cause and manner of death,” the release from the DA’s Office read. “As there is no suspicion of foul play no further information will be released by this office.”
The DA’s Office did not identify the victim.
This is the second drowning in just four days in the Greater Lowell area.
On Tuesday, 17-year-old drowned in Merrill’s Quarry in Westford off Vineyard Road. About 90 minutes after the report came in, he was pulled from the water. According to Westford Deputy Police Chief Victor Neal, the victim went to the quarry with his two friends who unsuccessfully tried to pull him out after he jumped in the water.
The quarry is private property and the victim was trespassing with his two friends.
