Ecuador 2, South Korea 1
WAKEFIELD, Mass. (AP) _ Ivo Ron’s second goal of the game at the 32-minute mark of the second half lifted Ecuador to a 2-1 victory over World Cup-bound South Korea in an exhibiton soccer match Sunday night.
Ron’s game-winner, set up by a strong cross from the left by Luis Capurro, came from 15 yards out on a header that beat goalkeeper Park Chul Woo.
South Korea’s Hong Myung Bo had tied the game at 1-all in the 15th minute of the half when beat Ecuador goalkeeper Jacinto Espinoza on a penalty kick.
Ecuador, which did not qualify for the World Cup, played the second half one man short after Juan Carlos Garay received his second yellow card late in the first.
The game, played in front of about 3,000 at Wakefield High School, was South Korea’s final warmup before the World Cup. South Korea opens its World Cup competition against Spain on June 17 at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas.
