WASHINGTON (AP) _ The three main databases used to check for visa violators by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. None existed before the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.

_US-VISIT: U.S. Visitor and Immigration Status Indicator Technology. Verifies identities of incoming travelers and collects biometric identifiers such as fingerprints.

_SEVIS: Student Exchange Visitor Information System. An Internet-based program that maintains data on, and monitors, about 1 million non-immigrant foreign students and exchange visitors in the United States.

_NSEERS: National Security Entry Exit Registration System. A registry of selected foreign visitors who, based on country of origin or intelligence-based information, may pose an elevated national security concern.
