German Team Led By Hoppe Wins Four-Man Race

CORTINA D’AMPEZZO, Italy (AP) _ Germany’s No. 1 bobsled, driven by veteran Wolfgang Hoppe, beat Germany’s No. 2 and the United States’ No. 1 in a World Cup four-man event Sunday.

Hoppe, teaming with Carsten Embach, Ulf Hielscher and Sven Peter, clocked the fastest time in both heats and had a total of 1 minute, 47.01 seconds.

Germany No. 2, driven by Christoph Langen, was runner-up in both runs and finished .28 seconds behind the winners.

The U.S. team of Brian Shimer, Robert Olesen, Jason Dorsey and Randy Jones placed third in 1:47.66.
