Patriot David Meggett Arrested
TORONTO (AP) _ Dave Meggett of the New England Patriots and another pro football player were arrested today and charged with assaulting a woman at a downtown Toronto hotel.
Police spokeswoman Sgt. Marilyn McCann said officers responded to a call from a woman at about 1 a.m. who said she had joined Meggett for a pre-arranged meeting late Thursday at the Royal York Hotel.
McCann said the two went to a suite and were joined there by a second man, identified as Steve Brannon of the Barcelona Dragons of the World Football League, and a former member of the Patriots’ practice squad.
Later, the woman called police to say she had been sexually assaulted, McCann said. She was taken to a Toronto hospital and treated for minor injuries.
McCann said Meggett and Brannon were in custody pending a bail hearing later Friday.
