DENVER (AP) _ Resolute Energy Corp. (REN) on Monday reported a second-quarter loss of $3.7 million, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.

On a per-share basis, the Denver-based company said it had a loss of 22 cents. Losses, adjusted for non-recurring costs, were 7 cents per share.

The results missed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of six analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 19 cents per share.

The independent oil and gas company posted revenue of $73.4 million in the period, also missing Street forecasts. Five analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $76.8 million.

Resolute Energy shares have fallen almost 4 percent since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Monday, shares hit $30.26, an increase of roughly 1 percent in the last 12 months.
