WVC BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Valley West Girls Score Win Over Pittston Area

At Valley West, Nicole Boutanos and Toni Amato combined for 24 points to help Valley West’s girls basketball team pick up its second consecutive win.

The Spartans topped Pittston Area 46-24.

Boutanos finished with a game-high 13 points, while Amato scored 11. Trinity Johnson added nine for the Spartans.

Hannah Getz led Pittston Area with six points. Lily Savoy and Brooklyn Pedana each had four.

At Coughlin, Helene Jardine scored 23 points, and Krista Papura added eight to lead Crestwood over Coughlin.

Julia Johnson chipped in with six points, while Jill Taleroski and Bella Termini each had five.

Ajalaya Butts led Coughlin with 12 points. Abby Cicon finished with eight, while Arianna Brittingham had seven.

At Dallas, six Hazleton Area players contributed to a 20-point first quarter to help the Cougars extend their winning streak to 10.

Marissa Trivelpiece led the Cougars with a game-high 14 points. Faith Grula scored eight, while Olivia Wolk had seven.

Lauren Charlton scored 11 points for Dallas. Emily Weiland scored six, while Haley Habrack, Deanna Wallace and Claire Charlton each had five.

Boys Basketball

At Wyoming Area, Hanover Area had two players flirt with triple doubles —though ultimately falling shy — in a big win, 75-33, over Wyoming Area.

Khairi Carson had 23 points, eight steals and eight assists. Asad Whitehead finished with 15 points, nine rebounds and six steals.

The Hawkeyes led 23-8 after one quarter and were never challenged. Dan Wiedl led Wyoming Area with 11 points.

At Berwick, Holy Redeemer picked up a road win thanks in part to a 15-7 run in the fourth quarter.

Collin Cook led the team in scoring with 20 points and Nick Prociak scored 17, combining for more than half of the Royals’ total points.

Zach Evans led Berwick with a game-high 27.

Nate Kreitzer hit seven 3-pointers and scored a game-high 26 points. Trahjan Krupinski backed him with 13 points.

Max Paczewski led Lake-Leh man with eight points.
