Weymouth man pleads not guilty in fatal stabbing of wife
ATTLEBORO, Mass. (AP) — A Weymouth man charged with fatally stabbing his estranged wife in her Norton apartment has been held without bail and ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation.
Martin McDonald pleaded not guilty to murder at his arraignment Thursday in Attleboro District Court.
Prosecutors say the 35-year-old McDonald stabbed Julie Meede on Wednesday night just minutes before he was involved in a traffic crash on Interstate 495 in which his pickup truck crossed the median and struck a car in the other lane, seriously injuring the other driver.
Authorities say the 34-year-old Meede’s 11-year-old daughter witnessed the stabbing and called 911. Two other children were also in the apartment at the time.
McDonald’s family and lawyer did not comment. He is due back in court March 2.
