Long Beach St. 38, Pacific 21
LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) _ Mark Templeton scored three touchdowns and set an NCAA career record for pass receptions Saturday night as Long Beach State defeated Pacific 38-21 in a Pacific Coast Athletic Association football game.
Templeton caught 15 passes to finish his collegiate career with 262 receptions, one better than the mark set by Howard Twilley at Tulsa in 1965.
Templeton scored on runs of 10, 2 and 6 yards in the first quarter as Long Beach jumped to a 21-7 lead after one period.
After Pacific had cut the deficit to 24-21 at halftime, Derek Washington caught a 7-yard touchdown pass from Gary Ruhlen in the third quarter and Greg Locy caught a 24-yard scoring pass from Jeff Graham in the final quarter for Long Beach State.
Long Beach State finished the season at 6-5 overall, 4-3 in the PCAA. Pacific finished 4-7 overall, 2-5 in conference.
Tim Richardson scored touchdowns on runs of 2 and 5 yards and Keith Parker scored on a 5-yard run for Pacific.
Eric Weetman also kicked a 21-yard field goal for Long Beach State.
