April 5, 2019

SCRANTON — A Monroe County man who pleaded guilty to income tax evasion was sentenced this week to six months in a federal prison, the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania said. James Famularo, 61, of Swiftwater, bilked $196,119 from the IRS for failing to report nearly $650,000 in income between 2012 and 2015. On Tuesday, U.S. District Court Judge James M. Munley at the federal courthouse in Scranton sentenced Famularo to six months in prison then six months home detention. After, he will spend two years on supervised release. Famularo pleaded guilty to tax evasion in November. Famularo must also pay the IRS what they lost — $196,119. — JOSEPH KOHUT
