Derby boat ramp closed until further notice after inspection

May 18, 2019

DERBY — The boat ramp under the Commodore Hull Bridge on Route 8 is closed until further notice after an inspection Thursday, officials said Friday.

The city clerk acknowledged that the mayor’s office was told via phone that — after a joint inspection of the boat ramp on Thursday by the state Department of Transportation and the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection — the ramp would be shut down until further notice.

All public safety entities were urged to take notice in case they needed to launch into the Housatonic River for any reason.

“All users should be aware that cement barriers and fencing have been installed by the State of Connecticut in order to prevent use of the boat ramp,” a statement from the city clerk said.

There was no reason provided for the closure of the ramp. The city clerk said when a formal notification of the closure is received by city officials, it will be shared.
