Police department to be evaluated for accreditation next month

December 28, 2018

SYCAMORE – The Sycamore Police Department soon will be subject to an assessment for accreditation from the Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation Program through the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police, according to a news release from Sycamore police.

The on-site assessment is scheduled for Jan. 7 and 8, according to the release. Assessors will determine during that time whether the police department meets the standards necessary to achieve ILEAP’s Tier One accreditation. The standards are divided into four categories: administration, operations, personnel and training.

Members of the community are invited to offer comments to the team as part of the on-site assessment by calling 815-899-1798 between 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 7. Comments are limited to 10 minutes and must address the police department’s ability to comply with ILEAP standards, which can be viewed online at ilchiefs.org.

The police department received accreditation for the first time in the department’s history through ILEAP in 2014. Accreditation measures the professional standards in place in the department and how well the organization actually follows them.
