1 dead in Upper West Side apartment fire

NEW YORK (AP) — A 71-year-old man has been killed in an apartment fire on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.

Police say the fire broke out just after 10 a.m. Monday on 87th Street between Amsterdam and Columbus avenues.

Police say the unidentified man was found unconscious and unresponsive inside one of the apartments. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other civilians were also injured.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
