Matura leads after jump portion

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. (AP) _ Czech skier Jan Matura had the longest jump of each round Thursday to lead the 90-meter jumping portion of a World Cup-B nordic combined meet

Matura compiled 240.5 points on jumps of 93.5 and 94 meters with Slovenian Rolando Kaligaro second. He earned 232.5 points on jumps of 87 and 94 meters at the Olympic Jumping Complex and will start 48 seconds after Matura on Friday in the 15-kilometer race which concludes the two-day meet.

Andi Hartmann of Switzerland and David Kreiner of Austria tied for third place under a cloudless blue sky in 15-degree weather. Hartmann jumped 86 and 93 meters and Kreiner went 87.5 and 91 meters. Each received 228.5 points and will start 72 seconds behind Matura.

The top American was Kristoffer Erichsen, who has dual citizenship by virtue of being born in South Dakota when his Norwegian parents were in college. He was 16th with 198.0 points. Dave Jarrett of Steamboat Springs, Colo., tied for 18th at 195.0.
