Nebraskans will welcome new year with higher grocery prices

January 1, 2019

LINCOLN - Food prices dropped at Nebraska grocery stores in 2016 and 2017 but we are on track for a 1/2 percent increase in 2019.

U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Price Analyst Annemarie Kuhns says we can expect a bigger jump in the new year.

Kuhns’ early estimates show that beef and veal will increase 1 to 2 percent, fresh fruit 2 to 3 percent, fresh vegetables 2/1/2 to 3/1/2 percent, cereal and bakery products 2 to 3 percent and dairy up by 4 percent.
