White House says it’s always a target amid reports of hack
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama’s spokesman says the White House is always going to be a target for hackers.
Josh Earnest came close on Wednesday to confirming reports that Russian hackers accessed sensitive White House information.
In October, the White House disclosed suspicious activity on its unclassified network, but declined to identify a culprit.
Earnest says classified networks didn’t appear to be compromised. He’s not saying whether Obama’s private schedule or emails were affected. But the spokesman says it’s fair to say anyone reviewing material on the White House network is “in close proximity to sensitive information.”
Earnest says the hack’s timing six months ago — as Washington and Moscow cooperated on Iran nuclear negotiations — is “an indication of the kind of complicated relationship we have with Russia
