Bay City Bans Bikini Contest As Sexist
BAY CITY, Mich. (AP) _ City officials banned a bikini contest from a festival at a city park as sexist and demeaning to women.
″I don’t believe that needs to be shown in public - take it to a bar,″ City Commissioner Virginia Hutter said Monday.
The commission on Monday approved a special use permit for Adore Ltd. for other events at this weekend’s Water Sports Weekend, including water scooter races, concerts and skydiving.
Promoter Art Dore said the bikini ban is ″stepping on the First Amendment pretty heavy.″
″This is freedom of expression, freedom of speech,″ he said. ″No one is forcing these girls into this type of competition,″ he said.
