Cat rescued from North Smoketree Avenue apartment fire

The Lake Havasu City Fire Department rescued a cat Wednesday from an apartment fire in the 2000 block of North Smoketree Avenue.

The agency responded to reports of a kitchen fire around 5:20 a.m. in one unit of a multi-unit apartment complex. The cat was rescued during the firefighters’ initial primary search of the unit, a press release states.

Firefighters were able to gain control of the fire within 14 minutes with fire damage confined to the kitchen and living room of the unit and extensive heat and smoke damage throughout, according to the press release.

The occupants of the apartment evacuated safely and no civilians or firefighters were injured during the incident.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
