Collision of big rigs on eastbound I-10 near Tonopah kills 1
TONOPAH, Ariz. (AP) — Authorities say two tractor-trailer rigs collided on eastbound Interstate 10 near Tonopah in west-central Arizona, killing one of the drivers.
The wreck Tuesday morning approximately 45 miles (72 kilometers) west of Phoenix closed eastbound I-10 following the collision but the Arizona Department of Transportation says the highway partially reopened shortly after 6 a.m.
Department of Public Safety Trooper Kameron Lee says the deceased driver’s truck caught fire after rear-ending another big rig. A passenger in the truck that caught fire was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries, while the driver of the other truck had only very minor injuries.
Lee said cleanup of the scene would take a while because the burned truck couldn’t be towed and spilled its load of potatoes.
