Oborny’s runner-up pole vault highlights Friday at state track
OMAHA - Aquinas Catholic junior Gabrielle Oborny earned a silver medal with a personal-best mark in the pole vault on Friday at the state track meet in Omaha, highlighting results for Butler County athletes.
Oborny reached 11 feet, 2 inches, besting Hallee Mann of Burwell for second place and a silver medal - the second straight medal in the event for Oborny after tying for fourth last year.
Mann and Oborny both ended at 11-2 but the Monarch was given the higher position based on fewer misses earlier in the competition.
Teammate Bridget Sisco joined Oborny on the medal stand in fifth with a mark of 10 feet. She also tied with four others but took the highest medal spot among that group based on tiebreaker criteria.
