Chief Judge Arthur E. Gamble to Receive the 2018 American Inns of Court Professionalism Award for the Eighth Circuit

ALEXANDRIA, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug 9, 2018--Chief Judge Arthur E. Gamble has been selected to receive the prestigious 2018 American Inns of Court Professionalism Award for the Eighth Circuit. The award will be presented to Gamble on August 17, 2018 at the Eighth Circuit Judicial Conference in Des Moines, Iowa, by Chief Judge Lavenski R. “Vence” Smith of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.

Gamble is chief judge of the Fifth Judicial District of Iowa, a post he has held since 1995; he served as assistant chief judge from 1990 to 1995. He is a trial judge of general jurisdiction over civil and criminal cases in Polk County, Iowa, and other rural counties of the district. Until 1983, Gamble was a lawyer in private practice in Des Moines with the firm of Gamble, Riepe, Burt, Webster & Davis.

Appointed in 1988 by the chief justice of the Iowa Supreme Court, Gamble also served until recently as a public utility rate judge where he had appellate jurisdiction over judicial review proceedings of the Iowa Utilities Board.

In 2007, Gamble served as chair of the Iowa Judgeship Formula Assessment Committee. He has also served on the Iowa Confidential Records Council, as chair of the Iowa Supreme Court Advisory Committee on District Court Clerks, and chair of the Iowa Supreme Court Task Force on Courthouse Security. In 2005, he was named one of the 500 leading judges in America by Lawdragon.

Gamble is president emeritus of the C. Edwin Moore American Inn of Court and past president of the Iowa Judges Association. He earned his undergraduate degree in political science and history from the University of Iowa, and his JD with distinction from the University of Iowa College of Law.
