Man charged in Kentucky inmate death pleads not guilty
PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (AP) — A man charged in the death of a Kentucky jail inmate earlier this week has pleaded not guilty to murder.
WYMT-TV reports Scottie Lee Gibson Jr. entered the plea Thursday in the death of 29-year-old Adam Potter.
Kentucky State Police say they were told Potter died Tuesday after a possible altercation at the Floyd County Detention Center. He was taken to a hospital and declared dead. As of Tuesday, his official cause of death was pending results of an autopsy.
Floyd County Attorney Keith Bartley says jail surveillance footage shows a “nightmare one punch” killed Potter. Bartley says the footage also shows jail staff and emergency personnel tried to save Potter.
A hearing for Gibson is set for June 15.
