Four Teens Killed in Wis. Accident
RHINELANDER, Wis. (AP) _ Four teen-agers were killed when their car ran off a road and crashed into a driveway embankment, authorities said.
The cause of the Tuesday night accident, about 100 miles northwest of Green Bay, was being investigated, the Oneida County Sheriff’s Department said.
The victims attended Rhinelander High School, said Principal Jim Gehrke.
Robin E. Steffke, an 16-year-old junior, was at the wheel when the car went onto the shoulder, skidded across the road, hit the embankment and flipped on its roof, Sheriff Timothy G. Miller said.
Also killed were Richard L. Blackburn, an 18-year-old junior; and freshmen Corry Jefferson, 15, and Adam J. Ring, 15, Miller said.
Counselors were available Wednesday for the 1,140 students at the school.
``It’s my 36th year as a school person, and I guess I’ve never seen this many tears,″ Gehrke said.
