Sun Devils women up to No. 19 in latest AP basketball poll

January 8, 2019

After back-to-back wins in the Rocky Mountains, the Arizona State women’s basketball team is rising again in the Associated Press women’s basketball poll, up three spots to No. 19 this week.

The Sun Devils beat Utah 65-63 and Colorado 76-70 to move to 2-1 in the Pac-12, a conference that continues to be among the deepest in the nation with five teams ranked in the top 25. Oregon leads the class at No. 5, with Stanford in sixth, Oregon State in 10th and California in 24th. The Atlantic Coast Conference also has five entrants, including No. 1 Notre Dame and No. 2 Louisville, and the Big Ten has five led by No. 9 Maryland.

Arizona, which was receiving votes in last week’s poll after an upset of ASU on Dec. 30, fell out of voting after a 16-point loss at Utah on Sunday.

The Pac-12 continued to be shut out of the men’s poll, with ASU receiving just one vote, the only appearance of any of the league’s team in the rankings.
