Illinois State Police District 21 arrested Joseph S. Benegas, 32, of Manteno, for battery and interference with emergency communication on Oct. 11. According to a release, a trooper was dispatched at 6:31 a.m. to a battery taking place on U.S. Route 45/52 at 3200N Road in Iroquois County. A female victim was in the southwest ditch on Route 45/52. Benegas was found walking northbound from the victim’s location. A male victim was found in the northeast ditch on Route 45/52. Both victims were checked for injuries and refused treatment.
Kankakee police arrested Robert L. Chandler, 49, of Kankakee, for battery and reckless conduct on Oct. 10. According to a prosecutor, Chandler was arguing with his former girlfriend outside a house in the 300 block of West River Street. The victim’s 17-year-old cousin came out and tried to break up a fight. Chandler is accused of pulling out a BB gun and firing at the juvenile, who fled on foot. Chandler fled on foot but was apprehended after a short chase. He told officers he threw the gun in the river. A judge set Chandler’s bond at $25,000.
