Ridge Point sweeps Atascocita, one step from state

Jack MarrionMay 28, 2019

The Ridge Point baseball team had a fifth-inning rally appear to fizzle with a double-play opportunity in game two of its Region III-6A semifinal series against Atascocita.

The Eagles got an out at first and threw well ahead of Jacob Garcia running to second. But he alertly stopped and got caught in a rundown, allowing Preston Steszewski to score ahead of the throw home.

Garcia later scored on an error for a three-run lead. The Panthers needed every run to hold off an Atascocita rally and win 7-6 on its home field, advancing to their first regional final.

District 20-6A champion Ridge Point (30-4-1) will play 21-6A champion Kingwood (31-5-2) for a trip to state. The Mustangs swept a strong Lamar team 7-5 and 8-3.
