Actress Betty Gillett Dies
LAKELAND, Fla., (AP) _ Actress Betty Gillett, who appeared in the original Broadway production of ″South Pacific,″ has died of lymphoma at age 58.
She died Tuesday at her sister’s house here.
Miss Gillett also appeared in Broadway productions of ″Pal Joey,″ ″Miss Liberty″ and ″Wonderful Town″ with Rosalind Russell.
A longtime Pittsburgh resident, Miss Gillett last appeared there in the Playhouse production of ″Side by Side by Sondheim″ in December 1980.
She starred in the show with her then husband, William L. Thunhurst, former executive director with the Civic Light Opera in Pittsburgh.
She came to Pittsburgh in 1962, playing Ado Annie in ″Oklahoma″ for the CLO. She stayed in Pittsburgh until 1983, when she moved to Florida and performed at the Golden Apple Playhouse in Sarasota.
Surviving are two sisters, both of Lakeland.
Private services were scheduled for Thursday.
