Delia N. Sayes, 94, of Bourbonnais, passed away Thursday (Nov. 1, 2018) in Pasadena, Texas.
She was born July 14, 1924, in Post, Texas, the daughter of Noble E. and Ermina Hood Melton. Delia married James Ottis Sayes in 1944. He preceded her in death in 2003.
Delia was a teacher at Alan Shepard School and Shabbona School, both in Bourbonnais, for 35 years. She retired from Shabbona in 1990. She was a member of College Church of the Nazarene, Prime Time, Tuesday Book Review, Birthday Club and Impromtu Club. She enjoyed reading, shopping, doing crafts and handwork and entertaining.
Surviving are one son, James (Judi) Melton Sayes, of Little Rock, Ark.; one daughter, Deena (Rev. Jerry) Thomas, of Deer Park, Texas; three grandchildren, Jay Sayes, Josh Sayes and Kristin Wheeler; and four great-grandchildren, Jordan and Jayden, and Annalyce and Ella Sayes; along with several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband; she was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Newell and Bill.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, at Schreffler Funeral Homes, Bourbonnais Chapel. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, at College Church of the Nazarene in Bourbonnais. Burial will follow in Kankakee Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Aroma Township.
Memorials may be made to the J. Ottis Sayes Scholarship Fund at Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais or the Dr. J. Ottis and Mrs. Delia Sayes Scholarship Fund at Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Mo.
