Director of Nevada Corrections Department stepping down

July 20, 2019

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — The head of Nevada’s state prison system is stepping down after three years in office.

Gov. Steve Sisolak’s office announced Friday the resignation of Corrections Director James Dzurenda, who said he is resigning to pursue new opportunities and spend more time with his family.

Dzurenda was appointed by then-Gov. Brian Sandoval in April 2016. Dzurenda previously held corrections posts in New York City and Connecticut.

Sisolak says he appreciates Dzurenda’s work to reform Nevada and that he’ll launch a search for a replacement.
