Man sentenced for killing university student in Virginia
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — A man who prosecutors say accidentally fatally shot a Virginia Commonwealth University student has been sentenced to one year in prison.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports 20-year-old Emmanuel E. Jordan was sentenced Monday on an involuntary manslaughter conviction for the death of Samuel O. Kwarteng.
Prosecutors say Kwarteng and another man, referred to in court proceedings as “Ish,” went to Jordan’s home on April 13. Jordan owed Ish $500 for marijuana.
Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Traci B. Miller says Jordan waved a weapon at the men and ordered them to leave. Miller says the gun fired as Jordan pushed Kwarteng out the door. A bullet entered Kwarteng’s back and went into his brain. Jordan fled and was later captured.
Jordan has been incarcerated for six months and will get credit for time served.
