Lee County Health Department to open milk depot

December 25, 2018

DIXON – The Lee County Health Department will soon be home to a breast milk donation site.

The department will become a Milk Depot for the not-for-profit Mothers’ Milk Bank of the Western Great Lakes where women can donate their extra milk for babies in need after going through a screening process.

Donated milk is tested and pasteurized and then goes mostly to infants in neonatal intensive care units that don’t have enough mother’s milk and can’t drink formula, especially premature babies, who are at greater risk for health problems without the milk.

A grand opening for the Milk Depot will take place from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Jan. 16 at the health department, 309 S. Galena Ave. Suite 100, in Dixon.

Call 815-284-3371, go to lchd.com or find the health department on Facebook for more information.
