Wildfire forces camp evacuation in Silver Falls State Park
SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Firefighters have responded to a small fire east of Salem in Silver Falls State Park that forced the evacuation of a YMCA youth camp.
KATU-TV reports fire officials say the blaze is less than 1 square mile and is “creeping along in heavy timber.”
Chris Havel with the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department says the fire forced 185 children and staff with a YMCA youth camp staying at Camp Silver Creek to move to the park’s office.
He says parents will pick up campers there.
The park remains open but officials say some backcountry trails near the fire have been closed.
