Saks Fifth Avenue Store Opening Saturday In Wilkes-Barre

May 14, 2019

WILKES-BARRE TWP. — Saks Fifth Avenue is coming to Wilkes-Barre Twp. The “Saks Company Store” will open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday  at the Lord & Taylor facility on Highland Park Boulevard, a spokeswoman from Hudson’s Bay Company confirmed Tuesday. The store will be open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, she said. Canada-based Hudson’s Bay Company is the parent company of Lord & Taylor, Saks Fifth Avenue and Saks Off 5th. Founded in 1670, it is the oldest company in North America. The company has owned Saks Fifth Avenue, an American chain of luxury department stores, since 2013. The Saks Company Store is relocating from a distribution center in Aberdeen, Maryland. The store there closed and the distribution center also is closing and laying off about 150 workers. The Lord & Taylor distribution center in Wilkes-Barre Twp. previously operated an outlet store and clearance center but it closed in 2015. A spokeswoman for Hudson’s Bay Company previously said the company is moving its operations from Aberdeen to the Wilkes-Barre Twp. distribution center “to streamline work and create efficiencies.” She would not say how many employees would be hired but she said the relocation of operations would create new job opportunities at the Wilkes-Barre Twp. distribution center and is an “important part of our continued investment in the community.”
