Preservation group’s exhibit focuses on Gary’s Union Station

January 1, 2018

GARY, Ind. (AP) — An urban preservation group that spruced up Gary’s historic train station is hosting an exhibit to highlight the building’s re-use potential.

The Decay Devils cleaned up Gary’s Union Station in early 2017 by hauling off junk, sealing off the crumbling structure and installing a viewing platform for visitors.

The (Northwest Indiana) Times reports they also painted murals and installed benches to create a park-like environment and encourage people to visit and appreciate the architecture and work of graffiti artists.

They’re now readying the upcoming “commUNITY Station” exhibit that will examine the building’s future potential decades after the last train left the station.

The exhibit featuring prints, 3-D models and video walk-throughs of the building runs from Jan. 12 to Feb. 4 at Gary’s Marshall J. Gardner Center for the Arts.
