5-year-old girl wounded in shooting at Florida apartment
MIAMI (AP) — Authorities say a 5-year-old girl has been accidentally shot and wounded in a Florida home.
The Miami Herald reports that the girl’s mother and the mother’s boyfriend were both arrested Tuesday and face multiple charges.
Miami police say 40-year-old Jonathan Craig had been carrying a gun around a Liberty City neighborhood apartment early Tuesday morning because he was concerned about armed people outside. At some point, the gun fired and hit the little girl in the back. Two other children had been next to her.
Family members initially told police the girl was wounded in a drive-by shooting. Craig was eventually charged with the shooting, and the girl’s mother, 43-year-old Tralliney Shondrea Coleman, was charged with neglect and drug trafficking.
Officials say the girl was recovering at a Miami hospital.
Jail records didn’t list attorneys for Craig and Coleman.
