HUNTINGTON — The cannon fire continued in Guyandotte through Sunday afternoon as Civil War Days wrapped up its 29th year of reliving history in Huntington.

Hundreds lined the streets as Confederate and Union re-enactors fought over the town as campfires burned in the neighborhood all day.

Held each year in early November, the battle commemorates the Battle of Guyandotte in 1861, when an estimated 700 Confederate cavalrymen raided the small town of Guyandotte, only to withdraw before Union reinforcements torched much of the secessionist-leaning village the next day.
