MONTREAL (AP) _ Atlanta’s Brian Jordan left Sunday’s game against Montreal after injuring his left knee and ankle while trying to beat out an infield hit in the top of the first.
With two outs, Montreal shortstop Orlando Cabrera dove to his right to grab Jordan’s grounder and threw to first. Jordan lunged for the bag with his left leg tying to beat the throw.
Jordan’s left foot slid on the surface of the base and he sprang into the air before collapsing to the ground.
Atlanta manager Bobby Cox ran from the dugout, joined by Braves training staff, to attend to Jordan, who eventually stood and paced around the first base area.
Jordan, who is hitting .286 with 16 homers and 66 RBIs, grimaced in pain frequently as he walked off the field without assistance.
