County Taking Applications For Marcellus Shale Grants

January 4, 2019

Luzerne County is accepting applications for the county’s 2018-19 Act 13 grant program, funded by Marcellus Shale natural gas impact fee revenue.

The grant program provides an opportunity for governmental entities in Luzerne County and nonprofit organizations that serve the county to apply for money to fund specific projects, according to a news release county officials issued this week. Nonprofits must hold tax-exempt 501 (c) (3) status to qualify.

The grant money comes from the Marcellus Legacy Fund, as stipulated in state Act 13, which regulates Pennsylvania’s shale industry.

The grant awards are subject to a vote of county council.

The deadline to apply is Feb. 1.

An application and instructions are available to download from the Luzerne County website at: www.luzernecounty.org/1104/Act-13-Grant-Committee.

Those with questions about the grant program may contact county council clerk Sharon Lawrence at 570-825-1634 or via email at sharon.lawrence@luzernecounty.org.
