Leading Light gives O’Briens St. Leger title
DONCASTER, England (AP) — Leading Light gave trainer Aidan O’Brien his fourth St. Leger title as son Joseph triumphed for the first time in the world’s oldest classic on Saturday.
The father-son duo had been disappointed a year ago when Camelot failed to complete the English Triple Crown at the track in Doncaster, northern England.
But Leading Light, the 7-2 favorite, finished a length and a quarter clear of Talent and Galileo Rock this time.
Jockey Joseph O’Brien says Leading Light “jumped a bit slowly and I could see a couple of horses going forward, I knew we weren’t going to go much of a gallop so I gave mine a kick just to get up there.”
