Sischo places 7th in 100 hurdles at Div. III meet
MOHAVE VALLEY — River Valley High School Dust Devils first-year track and field head coach Jonathan Clark gushed about his senior 100-meter hurder following Hailey Sischo’s school record- setting 16.57-second performance at the 2019 Division III Arizona State Track and Field Championship at Mesa Community College on Friday-Saturday.
“(I’m)extremely proud of Hailey,” said Clark by text message about his hurdler, who placed seventh at state. “She saved her best performances for when it mattered most.
“She took her family, coaches and teammates on a fun and exciting ride; (I’m) very blessed to be a part of it.”
Dust Devils junior Alex Trujillo recorded a time of 54.94 to come in 23rd place in the 400-meter dash during Friday’s preliminary race, which was not fast enough to qualify for Saturday’s final.
River Valley senior Mason Reese tossed the discus 120 feet, 4 inches to finish 19th in Friday’s Friday’s preliminary competition, which was not far enough to qualify for Saturday’s final.
Clark completed his first season as the Dust Devils’ head football coach in October, and he expressed satisfaction with how its went during his inaugural season as track and field head coach.
“All in all,” I’ve had a blast this track season,” he said. “Track is fun for me.
“It’s an opportunity to kick back and really get to know the kids without the stress I place on myself with football.”
