Nuggets’ Goldwire To Play Overseas

September 2, 1998

DENVER (AP) _ Unsure of their immediate future in the NBA, point guard Anthony Goldwire and rookie forward Ryan Bowen have decided to take their games overseas.

Goldwire, who started 32 games for the Denver Nuggets last season, has signed a contract to play with Olympiakos in Greece, and Bowen recently finished training camp with Oyak Renault in Turkey.

``Anthony’s dream is to play in the NBA and be successful in the NBA, but he’s also realistic,″ Goldwire’s agent, Mitch Frankel, said.

Goldwire is a free agent, and his chances of re-signing with the Nuggets were slim because of the offseason trade for all-star point guard Nick Van Exel.

Bowen, Denver’s second-round pick in the June draft, did not get a chance to participate in the NBA’s summer rookie camp because of the continuing lockout. The camp gives coaches and players a chance to gauge whether on-the-bubble rookies can win a spot on an NBA roster.

The Nuggets will retain Bowen’s NBA rights after he finishes his one-year contract in Turkey.
