Gifford, Clinton spotted at the JHouse
Scene … Riverside resident Kathie Lee Gifford, co-host of the fourth hour of the “Today” show Hoda Kotb, was seen having dinner with friends at the JHouse in Riverside last Saturday night. Also staying at the popular spot was Chelsea Clinton, daughter of former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton of Chappaqua, N.Y.
Making waves … Darien native Britton Barthold, a 2016 graduate and outside linebacker for Darien High School’s Blue Wave football team, has penned a book called, “12 — The Story of the 2015 Darien High School Football Team,” a collection of interviews with former players and coaches. The book tackles the pressures on young athletes, including youth drinking, rivalry, losing, and dealing with football injuries. The book, which was released on Amazon on Aug. 3, is named in honor of Jim Mulhearn, Coach Rob Trifone’s friend and a longtime Blue Wave fan and supporter who lost his battle with ALS in 2015. Barthold is the son of Charlie Barthold, former editor in chief of Yachting Magazine, and Peggy Barthold of Darien.
Out there … The Greenwich Wine Society’s first-ever pig roast takes place Saturday, Aug. 25, at the gazebo at Byram Beach Park. The festivities, which begin at 4:30 p.m., will feature roasted pig and barbecue chicken, as well as appetizers and desserts catered by Andy Burke of Burke Catering in Greenwich. Rumor has it … Actor Richard Gere and his new wife, Spanish publicist Alejandra Silva, are said to be expecting a baby. The 68-year-old movie star and his 35-year-old wife were married at their home in Pound Ridge, N.Y., in May.
In concert… The Bartlett Arboretum & Garden’s Music @ the Bartlett Summer Concert Series will feature Dead Meat, a Grateful Dead Tribute Band, from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12. The five-piece band, which hails from Nyack, N.Y., will perform on the Great Lawn, or in case of rain, in the Silver Educational Center. On stage … Actor and guitarist Jeff Daniels & the Ben Daniels Band will perform at the Ridgefield Playhouse at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12. The award-winning actor — who is known for his movie roles in “Terms of Endearment” and “Dumb & Dumber” and on TV’s “The Newsroom” — has taken the musical stage with the likes of John Hiatt, Bruce Hornsby and Lyle Lovett. Heads up… Connecticut’s Tax Free Week takes place Saturday, Aug. 19, through Saturday, Aug. 25. That means no 6.35 percent sales tax on clothing and footwear costing less than $100 per item.
