Duchess of York May Host TV Show
LONDON (AP) _ The Duchess of York is switching to the other side of the interviewer’s microphone to become the host of a talk show on a European satellite television station, a newspaper reported today.
The former Sarah Ferguson, divorced from Prince Andrew, will present 10 one-hour shows in a SKY TV series called ``Surviving Life,″ in which she will lead audience discussions on problems, the Sun tabloid said.
A spokeswoman for SKY TV, which is owned by Sun proprietor Rupert Murdoch, would not confirm the deal but said the station planned to make a statement on the duchess today.
The morning talk shows reportedly will start Oct. 5. Ferguson is to be paid about $8,000 per show and plans to donate the money to charities featured in the programs, the newspaper said.
Rival tabloid The Mirror quoted an unidentified source as saying that the series might be sold worldwide.
``Having been through so much in her own life, Sarah has a unique ability to connect with other people by sharing experiences,″ The Sun quoted SKY TV chief Elisabeth Murdoch as saying.
Ferguson is the spokeswoman for Weight Watchers and has appeared as a guest of Oprah Winfrey, Jay Leno, and Larry King. She recently started interviewing celebrities for Hello! magazine, a European celebrity weekly.
``This is a new venture for me and I’m looking forward to the challenge,″ The Sun quoted the duchess as saying.
