Disciplinary action taken against legislator accused of DUI
PHOENIX (AP) — The Arizona House’s incoming speaker is disbanding a committee that a fellow legislator was to chair and removed him from another committee in the wake of the lawmaker’s DUI arrest.
Speaker-designate Rusty Bowers announced Friday he had reviewed a report and video of Rep. David Cook’s arrest and concluded that the Globe Republican “clearly has some personal challenges that he needs to confront.”
Bowers said he will disband the House County Infrastructure Committee and remove Cook from one committee while leaving him on another.
Cook issued a public apology Thursday night regarding his arrest and said he was lucky that nobody was hurt.
Arizona Department of Public Safety video released Friday showed Cook complaining during a DUI field test about having a light shined into his eyes.
